A unique dining experience below Bar Gigi in Flying Horse Walk features dishes with a very special ingredient - extra virgin olive oil hand-harvested from the family's own groves back in Italy. LYNETTE PINCHESS reports

FOOD lovers have the chance to spend a unique evening enjoying a five-course tasting menu in medieval Nottingham caves.
The caves, which have a secret wine cellar, are located underneath Bar Gigi, a modern Italian restaurant in the city centre.
The forgotten underground space was rediscovered by Bar Gigi's owners seven years ago.
After years of restoration, beneath the historic 15th-century building at Flying Horse Walk overlooking Old Market Square, the space has been transformed into a hideaway, blending Nottingham's deep-rooted history with the family’s Italian heritage.
As well as being available for private dining and bespoke events, the restaurant is now offering ticketed experiences including wine tastings, chef-led supper clubs and Italian-inspired food events.
One of the events is a tasting menu matched to the family’s artisanal extra virgin olive oil, produced exclusively from their own olive groves that are around 300 to 500 years old in Manoppello, Italy.
Set in the dramatic landscape of the Apennines, the land yields olives of exceptional quality, grown in fertile volcanic soil and hand harvested using traditional methods.
