HM REVENUE & CUSTOMS PUBLISHES DETAILS OF BREACHES TOTALLING £11 MILLION

- By JOSHUA HARTLEY

HM Revenue & Customs has updated its list of Nottinghamshire businesses and bosses who failed to pay millions of pounds in tax.

Publishing the details of tax defaulters is among the possible penalties for deliberate errors in tax returns or deliberately failing to comply with tax obligations.

Nine firms and businesspeople from the county did not pay their fair share of tax, with the amount of tax/duty owed by the companies totalling some £11 million.

HMRC caveated the information by stating that each entry was specific to the dates mentioned, so directors may have changed their behaviour and may no longer be at the published address.

The business or premises may also have changed hands.

Kevin Hubbard, HMRC's director of individuals and small business compliance, said: “The overwhelming majority pay the tax they owe, but for those who refuse, we use a range of tools to take firm action.”

A person or business appears on the list if they have made at least one deliberate default on more than £25,000 in tax.

The list is updated every three months and a defaulter's details are removed after a year.
