Taliban defends four executions

THE leader of Afghanistan's Taliban has said executions are part of Islam, after four men convicted of murder were executed last week by gunfire in Afghanistan.

The executions took place in sport stadiums last Friday, and it was the highest number known to have been carried out in one day since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Human rights groups and the United Nations have condemned the killings.
