CAMBRIDGE is no hidden gem, but in recent years it has had a boost of interest from Brits looking for a smart staycation thanks to its history, breathtaking buildings, and standout food and drink scene.

Curious about the fuss, I booked a 48-hour escape to the leafy city.

If you're looking for an enchanting way to explore Cambridge’s stunning college architecture, punting is the obvious way to go. A friendly guide from Let's Go Punting accompanied me, and handed me a glass of champagne upon arrival.

I got lucky with the weather and we meandered past picturesque colleges and ivy-covered bridges. But it would still be pure magic, now, on a chilly day, wrapped in a blanket, sipping hot chocolate while drifting under the Bridge of Sighs as the sun sets.
