HEARTBREAK AS VENUE SET TO MAKE WAY FOR STUDENT COMPLEX
Construction is set to begin in November to turn the former factory occupied by The Hidden Spot snooker hall into student accommodation
THE boss of a Nottingham snooker hall has shared his heartbreak after discovering he could be forced to leave the site within months to make way for hundreds of student rooms.
Tarajmeer Kakar opened Hidden Spot Lounge off Denman Street East in Radford in 2013 - but he has spent more than a third of that time in limbo over its future.
Plans to transform the old leather works factory site where Mr Kakar’s business is based into student accommodation were first submitted in January 2021.
Since then, the 47-year-old from Beeston says he has been “unable to do anything” with the venue whilst he waited for work on those plans to begin.
But after years of uncertainty, the fate of Mr Kakar’s business was revealed when planning officers at Nottingham City Council voted in favour of freshly submitted proposals at the end of last year.
A condition in Mr Kakar's 20-year lease states that, after five years, he can be served a six-month notice at any time.
