Pea-brained fun takes centre stage with showers of April Fool mayhem

NOTTINGHAM got in on the April Fools' Day action in good time.

Tradition dictates that pranksters have until noon to execute their mischief before the tables turn, and they risk becoming the fool themselves.

The date has historical roots, with an 1851 excerpt from a British Journal stating: "April fool's gone past, you're the biggest fool at last."

Big brands and online organisations jumped on the bandwagon this year, showcasing humorous hoaxes.

Here are some of the best April Fools' Day jokes from in and around Nottinghamshire.

UNUSUAL CASTING CALL

The city's Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall issued an odd casting call on Facebook, asking: "Are you a chick with star quality? A duck with undeniable comedic chops?

"Friends The Musical Parody UK and Ireland are looking for the next iconic feathered duo to waddle their way on to the stage.

"Think you've got what it takes? Submit your headshots and foosball-mime routines today."

NEW SLEEPING CLASSES

The National Water Sports Centre announced a new class for people to take part in at the Holme Pierrepont country park:

"Need to rest & recharge? Try our New Sleeping Classes! The perfect way to relax, unwind and catch some serious ZZZs.

"Enjoy 60 minutes of pure, uninterrupted rest on a cosy mattress, with soothing sounds, and expert guidance on the art of napping. Grab your PJs and get ready to snore in style."
