A CITY school could close next year due to falling pupil numbers.

Nottingham City Council plans to shut Snape Wood Primary and Nursery School in Bulwell as its unfilled spaces are expected to hit 60% by 2028.

The Labour council says pupil numbers have been falling, largely due to a declining birth rate in Bulwell.

Councillors are expected to approve the closure of the school at a meeting of its executive members on Tuesday.

If the plans are approved, the school will close on August 31 next year, at the end of the 2025/26 academic year.

Councillor Cheryl Barnard, executive member for children, young people and education, said: “Snape Wood Primary has been an important part of the local community in Bulwell over many years so it’s very sad that we have had to consider the decision to close.
