NHS pay cut error 'has damaged my character'

ALMOST £600 was deducted from a Nottingham hospital worker's pay-slip for unpaid child support - despite him not having a child.

A court order was mistakenly added to the healthcare assistant’s record in March, meaning he lost more than a quarter of his monthly pay.

The blunder comes as a union raises concerns over issues with pay at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) since it outsourced its payroll services to NHS Shared Business Services (SBS), a joint venture between the NHS and the French IT firm Sopra Steria.

NUH, which runs the Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital, said it was aware of a “number of colleagues” experiencing problems and apologised to those affected.

SBS said 99.9 per cent of NUH’s 23,000 staff were paid correctly last month.

Unison, which represents thousands of trust staff, said more than 100 workers had contacted the union with pay-related concerns since the start of the year.
