New scheme offers TLC to city’s smaller green spaces

IMPORTANT community green spaces should get a similar level of care and investment to bigger parks such as Wollaton and Colwick, a councillor says.

Parks and green spaces, including Wollaton Hall and Deer Park and Colwick Country Park, are regularly maintained by the city council.

However a councillor has argued smaller community green spaces should be getting a similar focus, with many people in Nottingham unable to travel to the larger parks.

Figures from the council show parks and open spaces attract 1.1 million visitors each month, but only 63 per cent of residents visit them once a month.

Councillor David Mellen (Lab), who represents the Dales ward, described the visitor numbers as “impressive” during a meeting to discuss progress on the authority's green space strategy.

But he questioned how many visitors had come from outside the city.
