New environment chief says he'll 'end the net zero crime'

THE Reform UK councillor now responsible for environmental policies at Nottinghamshire County Council says man-made climate change is a “hoax”.

Bert Bingham, elected as a Reform councillor for Worksop West following the May 1 county council election, says he will be doing everything in his power to “end the net zero crime”.

Councillor Bingham made several such comments on his personal social media pages in the run up to the May 1 election and Reform has now chosen him to be the cabinet member for transport and environment. Cabinet members, paid around £43,000, have the power to take decisions in their particular service area on their own.

The comments are at odds with the policy that Nottinghamshire County Council had been following under the last Conservative administration. The authority declared a climate emergency in May 2021 and has been publishing a report on its greenhouse gas emissions every year since 2019.
