Improvements lift police force out of special measures

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE Police has been removed from special measures 14 months after it was asked to urgently produce an improvement plan.

This force was no longer subject to enhanced monitoring by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) as of yesterday.

Nottinghamshire Police has made improvements in its management of crime, its leadership and force management, and the way it is preventing and deterring crime. HMICFRS said the force's chief officer team was visible and accessible, while inspectors found a positive culture and active participation across the workforce.

Crime prevention has been addressed by looking at the issue of neighbourhood officers and staff being unable to spend enough time working in their communities.

HM Inspector Roy Wilsher, who has responsibility for Nottinghamshire Police, said: "I am pleased with the good progress that Nottinghamshire Police has made so far.
