Helping choir to spread the joy of music with £2.5k donation

THE Maximus Foundation UK has awarded a grant of £2,500 to Our Dementia Choir, to continue spreading the joy of music.

The Nottingham-based charity was established by actress Vicky McClure as part of a BBC documentary in 2018, with the aim of discovering whether music can make a measurable difference to the lives of those living with forms of dementia.

There are currently more than 900,000 people in the UK living with dementia and the documentary took part in groundbreaking scientific studies to measure the emotional and physical response to singing over three months of regular sessions. As a result, it was established that music helps manage the mood and anxiety of people living with dementia, as well as triggering memories and emotions that can help them reconnect with loved ones.
