Farmers had 'almost given up' before tax change

A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE farmer says he had “almost given up” before the government announced a major change to its inheritance tax plans just before Christmas.

The Post reported last year that many farmers in the county felt “trapped” and “thrown to the wolves” by the planned changes, which prompted several protests involving tractors descending on Westminster.

The government then confirmed on December 23 that it was significantly watering down the initial plans and although farmers say they are still not “completely off the hook”, many of those working Nottinghamshire’s land say the change makes their futures much more viable.
