PETITION FOR SHERWOOD LIBRARY TO BE OPENED
A DEVELOPER has not kept its promises to fix a string of problems to open the long-delayed Sherwood Library, a leading city councillor says.
The opening of the Spondon Street library missed a planned summer opening last year after dozens of problems were discovered.
Hockley Developments Ltd was the developer but a handover to Nottingham City Council for the library's final fit-out continues to be delayed by the need for essential work on the building.
Councillor Sam Lux (Lab) executive member for leisure and culture, claimed in January that all defects had been resolved - and the council pledged to open the library in this summer.
But it is understood that around 60 defects still remain.
Libraries campaigner Des Conway says responsibility for the problems is being pushed back and forth between Hockley Developments and the council. He asked Councillor Lux for an update at Monday's full council meeting.
