Demand for decision on bid to reopen youth centre

A COMMUNITY leader is demanding an immediate decision on his plan to reopen a youth centre after more than a year of silence.

The former Muslim Community Organisation (MCO) building in Sneinton has stood empty since its closure last year, but there are hopes it could be transformed into a "crucial" community space. But those willing to take on the building say they have been met with contradicting information from Nottingham City Council.

The council has also not provided a statement to the Post on if it will help the centre reopen.

Naveed Rashid is an ambassador for the Nottinghamshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) and chairs both Sahara Mental Health and the anti-violence charity Down Knives And Gloves Up.

Mr Rashid has submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) form to convert the MCO, on Beaumont Street, into a dedicated youth and community hub.
