Councillor claims another member told him: ‘I hope you daughter gets cancer’

HEATED WORDS DURING DEBATE ON COUNCIL'S CONDUCT POLICY

A COUNCILLOR accused other members of wishing cancer on his daughter and screaming “sexually vulgar expletives” in his girlfriend’s face, during a Rushcliffe Borough Council meeting.

Independent councillor Ted Birch was asking the council to review its code of conduct for councillors and to support the Government's new Ethics and Integrity Commission, which will engage with local authorities on their codes.

The Conservative group on the council said they would support the motion, with several other council-lors commenting in favour of it.

Leake Independents Councillor Lesley Way said: “I support this motion. We already have a very comprehensive code of conduct in our constitution, and it never hurts to revisit it now and again to remind ourselves of our responsibilities.
