Council still expects new library to open in spring

THE new Sherwood Library could open "earlier than anticipated" as campaigners hope the spring will mark the final deadline in a delay-hit project that should have been finished well over a year ago.

Nottingham City Council has recommitted to its spring deadline for opening the new library, after the old one was deemed not fit for purpose in 2017.

A mobile library is currently serving as a replacement and has been at Woodthorpe Grange Park since December, with dates booked up to April.

The council's website initially said that "further dates will be confirmed beyond April 2026", despite the authority saying that it wanted the permanent library open by the spring.

A spokesperson for the authority has now confirmed it expects the site to "reopen in spring 2026".
