Council pledges that safety issues at stadium won't happen again

A COUNCIL has pledged to make sure “significant” safety problems at a Nottingham sports centre will not happen again.

In 2024 “significant concerns” around the provision of safety staff - among other issues were raised when the British Transplant Games were held at the Harvey Hadden Sports Village in Bilborough.

The facility, run by Active Nottingham and part of Nottingham City Council, hosted the three-day competition where transplant recipients compete in sporting events to raise awareness for organ donation.

A few days before the event was due to start on August 1, concerns were raised that a proposed safety officer was unavailable for the event, and there were no contingency plans in place to make sure there were suitable safety staff at the event.

A review into key documentation also found there was a failure to keep them up to date and compliant.
