Construction of 'fantastic' curved footbridge to begin within weeks

RESIDENTS who use a canal crossing to get to Long Eaton's West Park are being warned the bridge will shut next month so a spectacular new walkway can be built.

Pedestrians will need to follow diversions from Thursday, November 6 when the existing link from the centre of Long Eaton to the park closes.

Dismantling of the old bridge at Broad Street will then begin - ahead of it being replaced by a dramatic curved structure that sweeps across the canal.

It features a suspension arch and a balustrade referencing the town's lace-making industry with a wedding pattern design.

The diversion will see pedestrians having to cross the canal via Derby Road.
