Call to avoid 'fiasco' as city hands over libraries

THREE Nottingham libraries may have to temporarily close when the city council hands them over to a charitable company as the authority pledges to try and "minimise disruption

The libraries in Aspley, Basford and Bilborough are currently run by Nottingham City Council and could have been closed permanently as part of a cost-cutting drive.

The Labour-run council eventually announced that the libraries could instead be handed over to Advance Nottingham, formerly known as Castle Cavendish. Agreements are still being drafted up, but the council now says that as part of the handover, the libraries may have to shut temporarily for any necessary works to be carried out.
