Arrests after abandoned shop targeted by thieves

SEVEN people have been arrested after 140 carrier bags full of items were taken from an abandoned B&M store beneath a closed Mansfield car park.

A legal battle involving Tesco has delayed the demolition of the Walkden Street Car Park, which partially collapsed in August 2025, and the three shops beneath the site, including B&M, were forced to shut as a result.

Police say that they received reports of a burglary inside B&M on Stockwell Gate at around 10pm on Friday.

Officers discovered that a group of people had entered the premises, filled a car with items, and escaped.

Police found around 100 carrier bags full of goods on a staircase just inside a fire exit.
