Congress misses opportunity to capitalise, revive party

Plagued with infighting between two groups, preferring the newcomers over loyalists and with two power centres operating from the high command, Congress, the oldest political outfit in the country seems to have missed the opportunity to capitalise and revive the party after their success in the last Parliament elections.

Surprisingly, about six months have passed after the Party President Mallikarjun Kharge dissolved the Uttar Pradesh Committee in December last year promising to give a strong organisation in this biggest state so the party fortune could be taken further from the success witnessed in the last Parliament elections and to put Congress in the commanding position before the 2027 Assembly elections but so far he even failed to give a state-level Committee to the party state president Ajai Rai.

The situation could be gauged from the fact that after Kharge announced the names of districtcity unit chiefs in March last, a big number of senior leaders revolted against appointment of incapable or even outsiders to head the local units. Not only this, the situation is further evident after sources confirmed that the State President Ajai Rai wrote a letter to high command to change at least a dozen of local chiefs but his request was dumped by the Party so far.
