Parties criticise approved budget

Following Mayor Dirk Kotzé's budget speech on Friday, 30 May, Mossel Bay Advertiser asked the opposition parties in council, the ANC, FF Plus, ACDP, PA and Icosa, for their input on the approved budget.
The budget was approved during a special council meeting last Friday. All opposition parties were against it.
At the time of going to press, the ACDP and FF Plus were the only parties to provide comment.
ACDP comment:
Jeanette Gouws, councillor for the ACDP, acknowledged the administrative effort behind the municipality's budget, but said she firmly rejected it, arguing that it reflected political priorities rather than the public interest.
Gouws said that Provincial Treasury echoed many of the concerns highlighted by the ACDP in council and committee meetings.
