Hindalco reports flat ₹2,196 cr net profit amid revenue decline

Aditya Birla group flagship Hindalco Industries Ltd on Friday reported consolidated net profit of ₹ 2,196 crore in the September quarter, unchanged from a year earlier and missing analysts' estimates of 12,363 crore. Consolidated revenue from operations fell 3.7% to ₹54,169 crore as metal prices fell.

Consolidated earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) stood at ₹6,096 crore, up 6% year-on-year, with an Ebitda margin of 11.25%. Segment Ebitda, which excludes accounting adjustments, stood at ₹6,896 crore, up 12.34%.

Coal costs fell during Q2, but the company expects them to be marginally higher in Q3. Shipping costs too were lower during the quarter..

"We have maintained momentum driven by our focus on cost control and a solid performance by all our downstream segments. Copper business delivered its bestever quarterly results, backed by record metal sales. Aluminium India upstream Ebitda rose by 7% over the first quarter supported by higher volumes and lower input costs. Aluminium India downstream business Ebitda increased 16% sequentially due to higher volumes," said Satish Pai, managing director, Hindalco.
