Nagpur civic authorities demolished the two-storey residence of Fahim Khan, an alleged orchestrator of the March 17 communal violence, on Monday, citing illegal construction. The operation, executed with bulldozers and a heavy police presence, also targeted an unauthorised balcony at the home of another accused, Yusuf Sheikh, in the Mahal area, before being halted by a court order.
The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court intervened in the morning, issuing a stay on further demolitions and reprimanding officials for what it termed "high-handedness." However, by the time the order was issued, Khan's house had already been reduced to rubble.
Authorities ceased demolition work at Sheikh's residence following the directive.
