A group of 111 farmers, all dressed in black, commenced a fast-unto-death on Wednesday at the Haryana-Punjab border in solidarity with their leader, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on hunger strike since November 26 last year.
-
The farmers, led by Surjit Singh Hardojhande, vowed to continue the protest until their demands, including a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, are met.
The group sat on the Haryana side near the Khanauri border, where arrangements for tents and blankets are underway as temperatures drop. Meanwhile, Haryana Police has increased security, enforcing Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to restrict gatherings of more than five people.
