Solon denies Leviste ₱2-M Christmas bonus claim

Another ranking congressman has denied Batangas first district Rep. Leandro Legarda Leviste's claim that members of the House of Representatives received a ₱2-million Christmas bonus.
According to Palawan second district Rep. Jose "Pepito" Alvarez, the checks Leviste posted on his Facebook reflect standard, lawful disbursements provided to all legislators, not Christmas bonuses.
Alvarez, in a statement Wednesday, Dec. 31, explained that every member of Congress receives compensation and maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE) to fund the day-to-day operations of their district offices. These include staff salaries, utilities, and basic services to constituents.
He stressed that portraying these routine operational expenses as suspicious "bonuses" is misleading and inaccurate.
