Decision on Villanueva’s dismissal alarming – Palace

If proven that the dismissal order against then congressman and now Senator Joel Villanueva was reversed, it is alarming considering that it is one of the most important institutions tasked to prevent and address issues of corruption in the country, Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a briefing on Friday, Oct. 24.
In what Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla called as a “surprise, secret decision,” the dismissal order against Villanueva issued in 2016 was allegedly reversed by former Ombudsman Samuel Martires in 2019.
The dismissal order was issued after Villanueva was found administratively guilty of Grave Misconduct, Serious Dishonesty, and Conduct Prejudicial to the Best Interest of the Service in 2016 due to the misuse of his P10 million Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) when he was still a Party-List member of the House of Representatives.
