Wait goes on for good days with Amorim

RUBEN Amorim received a comforting tap on the back from a United staff member in the bowels of the Gtech Community Stadium after finishing his press conference.

- By STEVEN RAILSTON

Amorim spoke for six minutes and 12 seconds during his post match address to the media. And it's starting to feel like the head coach is on borrowed time in Manchester.

He praised United's aggression against Chelsea, but that was absent against Brentford, who did not look like the team that had suffered a bad defeat the previous weekend.

The warning signs were there from the first whistle. The Bees found pockets of space to exploit and Amorim did not look pleased, pacing up and down the touchline with his water bottle.

Nathan Collins should have received a red card for bringing Bryan Mbeumo to the ground, but Bruno Fernandes did not convert the penalty. That decision went against United, but they were not good enough.

Amorim chugged water and dropped his bottle to the floor when Mathias Jensen scored Brentford’s third goal. He looked like a manager on the brink, although Reds sources have insisted he retains the backing of the board and no replacement is currently being lined up.

Search for bodies of hostages

THE tenuous ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war was holding yesterday, even as the return of deceased hostages from Gaza progressed more slowly than Israelis had hoped and health officials in the devastated territory said the Israeli military had fatally shot three Palestinians.
