PALACE BOSS COULD BE MAN REDS CHIEFS TURN TO

- By JEREMY CROSS

THE last time an Austrian took charge at United things went downhill. And fast.

That was back in 2021 when Ralf Rangnick became caretaker boss at Old Trafford, given the job on an interim basis following the end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure. Rangnick went on to become known as ‘Wreck-it Ralf’ - and left at the end of his first season.

But fast forward to now and elsewhere in the Premier League, another Austrian is doing the exact opposite to what Rangnick did. He’s repairing the reputation of his nation when it comes to success, winning trophies, leading his side to new heights and enhancing his own reputation beyond what anyone had ever imagined. Take a bow, Oliver Glasner.

In fact, the only thing Glasner has got wrong since taking charge of Crystal Palace is to defend Rangnick in an interview, insisting people have got it all wrong when it comes to his close friend. We can forgive him for this, because the ex-Eintracht Frankfurt manager’s work at Selhurst Park has been nothing short of remarkable.
