FOOTBALL FINANCE EXPERT TALKS TO M.E.N. SPORT

- By KASRA MORADI

UNITED can spend £100million in the January transfer window, according to a football finance expert.

As United push for Champions League qualification this season, plenty has been said about their need to bolster their ranks through the transfer market.

Head coach Ruben Amorim has already said the club won't make any signings unless there is 'common ground' with director of football Jason Wilcox about which players can improve the squad, admitting that the pair aren’t always on the same page when it comes to new additions.

United already look to have missed out on a deal for in-demand forward Antoine Semenyo, who is set to join rivals City from Bournemouth.

The majority of other players linked with the Old Trafford club have been midfielders, including the likes of Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Conor Gallagher.

A large part of whether United are active in January will also come down to their financial situation.

There has been plenty of speculation about how much they are actually able to spend on reinforcements, given owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's status as one of Britain's richest men with an estimated net worth of £12billion.

But Ratcliffe has painted the picture of a financial crisis at United since he bought a minority stake in the club in February 2024, exacerbated by a lack of European football this season.
