Councils unite to oppose new town

PARISH and town councils have joined together in opposition to the proposed new town in Adlington - branding it "a betrayal of Britain's democratic traditions".

At a Bollington Town Council meeting on Tuesday, October 7, the possibility of a settlement of 14,000-20,000 in the green belt was discussed.
Members say the government plans are "deeply flawed" saying they will lead to Greater Manchester swallowing Cheshire, more traffic on roads and loss of important habitat.
They have been joined in protest by Poynton Town Council and Pott Shrigley Parish Council - all of whom are angered by the "total lack of consultation" ahead of last month's new town announcement.
