Champs Macc end with thumping win

THE champions were crowned at the weekend following an emphatic 4-0 victory over Whitby Town in the final game of the season.

Centre-half Rollin Menayese poked the hosts in front after 20 minutes, while Luke Duffy had the lead doubled ahead of the interval.

Then, with half-an-hour to go, Duffy found his second of the game and 12th of the season before chaos erupted when Danny Elliott added a fourth deep into stoppage time, causing the Star Lane End to empty onto the pitch before the final whistle.

Manager Robbie Savage produced an unchanged starting XI to the side that picked up a 2-1 win away at Leek Town last Monday.

Macc started the game with speed, threatening the Whitby backline with a series of chances from early on.

Captain Paul Dawson was first to try and break the deadlock with a powerful hit from range but could only steer his driven effort over the bar.

He then looked to redeem himself five minutes later by choosing the unselfish option of squaring it to centre-half Lewis Fensome, though his first-time shot deflected narrowly wide.
