Victory against neighbours means Macc have beaten all-comers on way to NPL title
MACCLESFIELD have now beaten every team in the league after sealing a slender 2-1 win over local rivals Leek Town.
The Silkmen travelled to Harrison Park hoping to get revenge for Boxing Day's 2-1 defeat at home to Leek, with Robbie Savage’s men concluding victorious thanks to Luke Duffy’s early opener and Danny Elliott’s 40th goal of the season.
Former Macc man Alex Hurst thought he brought his side back into the game after halving the deficit from the spot just after the interval, but Liam Edwards’ red card gave the visitors the advantage in the final 25 minutes.
Savage made five changes last weekend's 4-0 victory against Ilkeston Town, with Neil Kengni, John Rooney, Laurant Mendy, D’Mani Mellor and Luke Duffy all returning to the starting XI.
Macc started strongly, with chances arriving in the 2nd minute from a sublime free-kick by Rooney and again in the 4th minute from Dawson’s free header, though neither efforts were able to alter the scoreline.
