AHEAD of the long weekend, Manchester-based charity Feedo Needo handed out free food parcels to people in need.
Alongside fruit, vegetables, ready meals and cupboard staples, this week’s parcels also included Easter eggs and other sweet treats.
Rebecca Hargreaves, Project Coordinator for the Manchester branch of Feedo Needo, said more than 50 food parcels were handed out within the first 10 minutes of opening the doors on Thursday morning - and all of the day’s packages were given out after just 20 minutes.
“We have seen an increase in people coming to us in recent months,” Rebecca tells the Manchester Evening News. “There’s a lot of families who are struggling right now. A lot of people will tell us that they’re finding things difficult and are having to make cutbacks when they can due to the cost of council tax and bills continuing to all go up.”
