AMMANFORD marked their final visit to St Helen's with a fine 51-run victory over bottom side Swansea in the South Wales Premier Cricket League.
-
Batting first, Ammanford got off to the best possible start with an opening stand of 125 between Tom Bevan and Gruffudd Owen (46).
Bevan was out first for 92 from 90 balls, wan innings which included 11 fours and four sixes.
A further stand of 48 between Owain Baxter (50) and Dylan Driscoll (42) pushed the Ammanford total to 196-3 with 14 overs remaining.
And they completed their 50 overs with a respectable 269-8.
Opening bowler Mohammed Aazim was Swansea's best bowler with 3-42.
Rain revised the Swansea target to a difficult 187 from 26 overs.
Despite efforts from Mohammad Junaid (35), Tim Moses (25 not out) and Jack Cropper (22), Swansea never got anywhere near striking distance of their target.
This was due in the main to a superb bowling performance from Josef Davies, whose five wickets cost only 17 runs.
Ammanford sit in sixth place at the halfway point of the season. On Saturday they seek revenge for defeat on the opening weekend of the season against Ynystawe.
In Premier League 2, Mark Thomas produced a devastating spell of bowling as second-placed Penarth eased to a nine-wicket win at home to Dafen Welfare.
The Llanelli side were left to regret their decision to bat first when they were all out for just 61, with only two of their batters reaching double figures.
Thomas was Penarth's chief weapon, mopping up the tail to finish with figures of 4-1.
Penarth clinched victory in the 11th over of their reply with Will Skone 26 not out.
Carmarthen Wanderers rediscovered their best form with an eight-wicket win at Ynysygerwn.
The Neath Valley side chose to bat first but crashed to 87 all out in 37 overs.
