UEFA award over handling of racist abuse
Liverpool Echo
|May 09, 2025
EVERTON and Liverpool have together won an award from UEFA following their condemnation of the abuse suffered by Blues midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The 32-year-old was subjected to sickening messages after the 2-2 draw in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, held back in February.
Doucoure was shown a red card amid chaotic scenes after the final whistle.
Liverpool player Curtis Jones also saw red, as did Liverpool manager Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff. Both clubs were later fined by the Football Association, as were Slot and Hulshoff.
For all the emotion expressed on the pitch that night, both clubs quickly came together in the aftermath once they were made aware of the abuse directed at Doucoure.
