JAMES BEMOANS ‘RUBBISH GOALS’ AS HE ADMITS BLUES PRESSED SELF-DESTRUCT

- By CONNOR O’NEILL ECHO Reporter connor.oneill@reachplc.com @ConnorOn95

JAMES Tarkowski believes his Everton side only have themselves to blame after they hit the self-destruct button against Bournemouth.

The Blues headed into the game with the chance to not only put themselves firmly in the mix for European football next season but also leapfrog Liverpool in the table.

But David Moyes’ side imploded within the space of eight second-half minutes as they threw away a 1-0 lead and eventually finished the game with 10 men.

Taking the lead through Iiman Ndiaye's penalty just before the break, two quickfire goals from Rayan and Amine Adli just after the hour-mark turned the game on its head.

A disastrous period for Everton was compounded when defender Jake O’Brien was sent off for a professional foul on Adli.

And Tarkowski said: “It is disappointing because we put ourselves in with a chance without playing great in the first half, as we went in 1-0 up, and in the second half we started well and had a couple of opportunities to double the lead, and we would have felt a lot more comfortable.
