Tait relieved to get over poor start to clinch cup

PAUL Tait hailed the character of his Everton under-21 side after they came from behind to win the Liverpool Senior Cup.

The young Blues were taking on Lower Breck at Walton Hall Park and got off to the worst possible start imaginable.

With less than a minute on the clock, Gary Moore's side, who were promoted to the Northern Premier League from the North West Counties League on Saturday, opened the scoring when Elliot Hughes finished a fine team move.

Jordan Barrow and Jesse Dowling combined before the latter crossed for the former Bootle man, who finished past Fraser Barnsley in the Everton goal.

Breck secured promotion to step four with a 2-0 victory over Padiham at Anfield Sports Centre at the weekend, and they more than held their own in the opening 30 minutes. So much so that Theo Roberts remained largely untested.
