The teenager is enjoying a stellar loan spell with the Championship club but with David Moyes facing a selection crisis, there is a growing possibility he seeks to recall the midfielder in January.

Deepdale chiefs have now acknowledged that is a threat to their plans - though they have also made clear they understand the severity of the situation Moyes currently finds himself in.

The Blues boss agonised over whether to allow Armstrong to leave Finch Farm at the end of the summer. The 18-year-old is highly-rated on Merseyside and has made a number of first-team appearances, including in the Premier League, since his breakthrough in the summer of 2024.

Highlights have included standout displays against lower league opposition in the domestic cups - he was named man of the match in the FA Cup win over Peterborough United in January and impressed in the victory over Mansfield Town in this season's Carabao Cup.
