'OUR HEARTS ARE WITH THE JEWISH COMMUNITY IN MANCHESTER'

- By DAN HAYGARTH

MERSEYSIDE'S Jewish community's “hearts are with Manchester” after two men were killed in a terrorist attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall on Thursday.

Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, died after Jihad Al-Shamie drove into a group of people before stabbing a man.

The terrorist was shot dead by police seven minutes after officers were alerted to the attack, which took place on Yom Kippur, Judaism’s holiest day.

Greater Manchester Police has said a person who died in the attack suffered a gunshot wound as armed officers attempted to shoot the killer.

A statement from Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Rabbi Daniel Walker, its president Hilary Foxler, and chairman of trustees Alan Levy, said “the loss we feel is beyond words”.

The Merseyside Jewish Representative Council, which represents the communities of Liverpool, Southport, Wirral, Chester and its neighbouring areas, said it stands with Manchester and all Jewish people in the United Kingdom. The Union Flag at Liverpool Town Hall was also at half mast yesterday in tribute to the victims.
