HORSE POWER Alto Alto poised to stretch run of fine Plumpton form

CHRIS Gordon may have bigger fish to fry these days but he is still the man worth following at Plumpton and his Alto Alto can defy top-weight in the Howden Rural Insurance Handicap Chase.

- BY NICK ROBSON

Winner of 116 races at the Sussex venue, and at an impressive strike-rate of 18 per cent, it goes without saying that whatever he runs is always worth consideration.

Gordon is one of the biggest characters in the training ranks but this season the quality of horse he has in his care seems to have gone through the roof.

In Bass Hunter he is responsible for the number one contender from the UK for the Champion Bumper and he has good chances in the handicaps at Cheltenham.

Alto Alto is a fair way from running at Cheltenham but he is still the best horse in this race and comes in on the back of a return to form at Plumpton earlier in the month when second.

He was going for a third win in a row in that race and a change in headgear sparked him back to life.
