DJ ROCKSTEADY EDDIE RECALLS CLUB'S GLORY DAYS AHEAD OF REUNION

- By CONAILL CORNER ECHO Reporter

Grafton memories

EDDIE Parry hasn’t been inside The Grafton since 2008, shortly before it closed its doors permanently.

Going by the name Rocksteady Eddie, he was the legendary Liverpool nightclub’s resident DJ for 11 years, beginning in 1997.

Ahead of Grafton 101 at The Olympia, a reunion event for the now derelict venue 101 years on from its opening, Eddie returned to the club - which is to be redeveloped into apartments - with the ECHO, sat amid the rubble and recounted some of his memories.

Entering the Grafton through the gents’ toilets of the adjoining Olympia, the DJ begins to tell anecdotes.

"I remember people coming in and shouting over to me, ‘Rocksteady Eddie, play my song,” he says, with a smile.

We watch our step as we gain access to the main ballroom and Eddie sits at the DJ decks, which still have equipment from his time there.

He even finds an old battery of his: "This was a spare for my radio".

The Grafton may now look like something from a post-apocalyptic film but Eddie says: “The memories are still here.”
