TRANMERE BOSS UNHAPPY WITH SIDE - BUT TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR PAINFUL HOME DEFEAT

- By OWEN LINNETT

TRANMERE Rovers boss Andy Crosby dubbed his players’ performance as ‘dreadful’ in Saturday's 2-0 loss at home to Barnet but claimed full responsibility for the disappointing showing.

Both the halftime and full-time whistles were met with heavy booing as the unrest spread throughout Prenton Park following a result that left Rovers down in 19th place, just three points above the drop.

Crosby believes the fans were well within their rights to react the way they did, because his players simply were not good enough.

He said: “We deserved that. It is my responsibility; I am the manager. I pick the team, and I expect them to go out there and do the job, but we did not do that today, so we were deservedly on the end of the boos and criticism when the referee called time.

“It was a dreadful performance. I spoke in my programme notes about having to do the basics in any game of football, particularly in our league, because sometimes the technical aspect isn’t there.

“You have to run and fight, you have to show commitment in your tackles and other things to give you a right to be in the game.
