A fitting tribute to bomber crews to mark VE Day

INSTALLATION OF 20,000 POPPIES
A DISPLAY of more than 20,000 ceramic poppies were unveiled ahead of VE Day.
The striking installation involved thousands of poppies carefully arranged in the silhouette of a Lancaster Bomber at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln.
The installation was a creation by Lithuanian artist Darius Sirmulevicius, who now lives in Lincolnshire, and will serve as a summer-long tribute to the millions of people across the UK and Commonwealth who served in the Second World War.
It was unveiled last week ahead of the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day on Thursday, May 8.
Each of the poppies is unique and will be available for sale after the installation, with the proceeds going to the IBCC, the Wooden Spoon Rugby Charity and the British West India Regiments Heritage Trust.
