Tribunal told doctor 'gaslit by bosses'

AN NHS whistleblower was “gaslit” by her superiors, a tribunal has heard.
-
Mariam Benaris, who worked for Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust during Covid, raised concerns about patient safety at the Bradgate Unit, at Glenfield Hospital.
They included unease about the use of Beaumont Ward as a Covid admissions centre; a lack of supervision of the ward's garden, from which a patient absconded and killed himself; and concerns about a colleague's discharge of a different patient, which Dr Benaris’s legal team claims was done without follow-up care or anti-psychotic medication being arranged.
Patient Three was later readmitted by Dr Benaris after he overdosed and reported thoughts of killing his neighbour, the tribunal heard.
Dr Benaris said she felt she was forced to move into a community role by the trust, which she believes was a result of whistleblowing, and had her on-call and mentoring responsibilities suspended.
The trust denied any of its actions were intended as a detriment for the whistleblowing, saying she moved “voluntarily.”
