BRITISH NO.2 IS UNTROUBLED BY OPPONENT AT NOTTINGHAM
TWO-TIME defending champion Katie Boulter reached the last 16 of the LTA’s Lexus Nottingham Open after a comfortable straight sets success over Lulu Sun, writes Mohamed Hamza of Sportsbeat.
The Leicester-born hero barely broke a sweat against the former Wimbledon quarter-finalist, dispatching the New Zealander 6-2 6-2 on a busy day for British talent in the Midlands, with Sonay Kartal, Francesca Jones, Harriet Dart and Mimi Xu also in action.
The LTA’s Lexus Nottingham Open has been a happy hunting ground for Boulter with back-to-back triumphs in 2023 and 2024 and she admitted the event is like a second home.
“I'm very happy to re-enter the tournament,” said Boulter, 28, of Woodhouse Eaves.
“Coming back here feels as close as home as home can be.
“This is where I played tennis as a little girl and I was that person watching the tournament as a little kid and even now I draw on those emotions.
