Drivers disperse as the down car meet as risk

POLICE shut down a car meet after deeming it a significant threat to public safety.

Officers were called to Blaby after a number of reports that vehicles were racing along the bypass and blocking roads on Tuesday.

Upon their arrival, the drivers quickly dispersed - but not before officers managed to get a few registration plate numbers.

A spokesman for the force said officers had attended a “large” car meet on the bypass following numerous reports of antisocial behaviour.

According to the force, the event had begun as a static meet - which is “perfectly acceptable when people are simply enjoying the cars on display” - but it had then quickly escalated into a mobile car cruise.
