'It is amazing to see just how loved my little boy is'

A NINE-year-old boy has been given a 'new lease of life' - after the community raised more than £6.5k to buy a special trike.

Freddie Malkin suffers with lissencephaly a rare life-limiting condition that only affects about one in 100,000 babies.

Also known as 'smooth brain, the neurological condition is a rare brain malformation that occurs when it doesn’t develop normal folds. Symptoms include seizures, difficulty controlling limbs and severe developmental problems.

Mum Natasha Malkin left her job as a hairdresser to become a full-time carer when Freddie was born, after doctors warned her he was unlikely to survive past the age of two.

But Freddie - who has an 'infectious smile' recently celebrated his ninth birthday.

Natasha, of Leek, spent the run-up to the birthday thinking of ways to make more memories with her son.
