Gavin overcomes battle with cancer to receive art honour

Double celebration for 56-year-old after three-year battle

ARTIST Gavin Bowyer has achieved prestigious recognition from the country's only drawing society - at the same time as beating cancer.

Gavin, who sketches in black and white, is in remission after two-and-a-half years of treatment for bowel cancer at the Royal Stoke.

Now it has turned into a double celebration after the 56-year-old from Leek learned he had been made a full member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art (SGFA).

Gavin, who was previously an associate member of the SGFA, used his art as a form of therapy and expression during his health battle.
